Meet Lacey Watts
What inspires you? Many things inspire me but nothing inspires me more than seeing an underdog come out on top. Success stories are constant reminders that anything is possible.
How long have you been interested in vintage and what originally sparked your interest? I’ve been interested in vintage clothes & thrifting for about 3 years now. My best friend actually introduced me to thrifting, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Do you remember your first vintage find? Yes! My first vintage finds were a black velvet Betsey Johnson dress and an oversized chunky cardigan which I still own & adore!
What is your favorite vintage find to date? Ugh, so hard to choose because I’ve acquired so many great pieces. I think the one thing I find myself wearing often is this studded oversized denim shirt — it’s so convenient, and cute — I can literally throw it on over anything!
Do you focus on a certain era? If so, which? I don’t focus on a particular era. Nothing about the way I dress is premeditated. I do tend to gravitate towards the brightest/craziest prints.. stuff that brings a smile to my face!
Do you have any goals for 2015? If so what are they? My main goal in life is to be happy and make sure that I’m emotionally, mentally and physically healthy. Sometimes I get caught up with day to day stuff, I forget to take care of myself. I would like to improve on those things a lot more this year.
Do you have any advice to give anyone that wants to start wearing vintage? I’ve found that there are some vintage/thrift stores that overcharge, especially in NY .. know that isn’t your only option. Do your research. There’s always spots that will have close to what you’re looking for, at a cheaper price.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Taking over the world 🙂
How would you define your style in three words? This has always been a difficult question to answer and I think it’s because I’ve realized I don’t like labels. They remind me of boxes and I’m claustrophobic, Haha! I can’t define my style… It’s just me being Lacey.
What does style mean to you? Style to me is effortless. It means embracing your individuality and wearing what makes you feel comfortable. I think everyone should be able to look in the mirror and see themselves.. not a carbon copy of someone else.
Where do you get your style inspiration? I admire Solange, Rihanna, and Jenne Lombardo because not only are they fly as hell but their confidence levels are on 100,000. They’re not afraid to do them, and I respect that so much. I really get inspired by clothes though. I get so happy when I see color & print .. oh, and if it sparkles, forget about it! Like I said before, nothing about how I dress is planned. I don’t look at people and say I want to look like that. I buy what makes me smile. I get dressed with zero intentions because If I think about it too much then I’m not being myself.
You love to read! What are some of your favorite books and why? I will read almost anything but I’m more drawn to books that can help to enhance my spirituality, and improve my overall emotional/mental health. My favorites are The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, Happiness by Thich Nhat Hanh, and The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz. All of these books helped me out of personal struggles and assisted in my growth. I recommend everyone read at least one!
